Local ARTS competitions

Artistic expression can capture and help us to perceive processes of change. It is charged with a constant flux of emotions, symbols and stereotypes. Some artefacts even take on an iconic quality. Think of Liberty leading the people by Eugène Delacroix, it captures the passion and energy of the French Revolution. Can we condense today’s transformation processes towards urban sustainability into art objects? Can this help us to reach the hearts and minds of citizens living in those cities?

ARTS is setting up an open competition under the theme of urban sustainability transitions across its five transition regions. The main objective of the artistic competition is to produce discussions about sustainability and sustainability transitions in each transition region. To be successful, transitions need to reach out to the whole community and inspire people to rethink their way of living and self-mobilise. Recognizing the role of culture in inspiring and interpreting social change, the project will organize a competition for local artists, designers and other creative citizens to reflect upon the changes happening in the case study regions.
